Mary Helena Strauss began the first decades of her work life in the film and television business. She started her career at the Bottom Line nightclub in New York City while earning a BFA in Film and Television from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and interning at places like MTV. She went on to work at the William Morris Agency (now WME) and produce for various video divisions at Atlantic Records, Time Warner and BMG Entertainment.
In 2000, she started Elm Films and worked as a DVD producer. As the popularity of DVDs waned, Helena and Elm Films shifted towards production of educational films for colleges and universities but depending on how you look at it, either life got in the way or God had other plans.
Helena became a caregiver to her family: her father who died of Parkinson’s Disease, her sister who died of breast cancer, and her mother who is legally blind. She produced the Grief Monomyth and the Secret Maps Project, a suite of films for grief counselors as well as those who have experienced a loss of a loved one. All of her personal and professional experience has now evolved into the Journeying Soul podcast where she has fun and takes great pleasure in exploring the curious nature of life with her fellow travelers.
